Govt denies move to stop broadcast of Hindi news bulletins from Delhi: Rathore

NEW DELHI: The Government today said no decision had been taken by Prasar Bharati to stop the broadcast of news bulletins in Hindi from Delhi.

However, Prasar Bharati has approved the proposal of News Services Division of All India Radio to shift Indian Language Units (except Urdu and Sanskrit) from New Delhi to respective Regional News Units (RNUs) in states capitals in view of the availability of large pool of talent having proficiency in the regional languages at the aforesaid respective Regional News Units.

AIR broadcasts programmes in all 22 languages included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and English and also 146 major dialects of the country and thus contributes to integrity of the country, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore told the Lok Sabha today.

Prasar Bharati had informed the ministry that Regional news bulletins for Delhi/ National Capital Territory in Hindi namely “Pradeshik Samachar” by News Services Division, All India Radio (NSD, AIR), New Delhi, and for Haryana in Hindi by Regional News Unit, AIR, Chandigarh are broadcast from AIR, Delhi.

Apart from this, 14 regional language national news bulletins originate from News Services Division, All India Radio, New Delhi.

Member of Parliament Prof K V Thomas had written recently to the ministry against the move for shifting of regional language news bulletins from Delhi to State capitals.
