Indian Classical Vocalist Samidha Joglekar lends her voice to India Music Network and Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children

MUMBAI: Born and raised in Toronto, having a robust Canadian accent and limited knowledge of Hindi, it may be surprising that Samidha Joglekar is emerging as a remarkable and talented Indian classical vocalist.  With over twenty years of guidance from her Guru, Shree. Narendra Datar of Toronto, she has garnered scholarship and recognition that have brought her to India to study with renowned classical singers, like Veena Sahasrabhuddhe and Dr. Prabha Atre, and led to musical collaborations with power-house musicians like Nitin Sawhney. This talented girl sings everything from Hindustani classical to Marathi Natya Sangeet to Adele, and in her own style that reflects her mixed heritage and invokes an appreciation for the versatility and universality of music. Her melodious voice is sure to take music lovers by storm with her soulful original composition for India Music Network ( IMN) called "Jamuna Kinaare"- http://www.youtube.com/user/Indiamusicnetwork

Over the last ten years she has been featured by various Canadian world-music/fusion bands, as well as provided vocals for several films and commercials. More recent projects have been with acclaimed UK based composer and producer Nitin Sawhney for Coke Studio India Season 2 (Saahil Tak and Longing), and for Deepa Mehta’s soon-to-be-released film Midnight’s Children for which Sawhney has composed the music.

Sawhney first heard Samidha singing with a world-jazz ensemble at a music festival in Toronto and was absolutely blown away by her voice quality.  When he brought her into a studio to record for Midnight’s Children Deepa Mehta was floored by the melodiousness of her vocal phrasing and the emotional resonance she brought to the scenes. In the film Samidha’s voice is heard during several “romantic” moments, namely a composition in Raag Haunsadhwani when Shahana Goswami’s character meets a man in a café, and the song “Prem Jogana Ban Ke” that is the background score during a romantic scene between two of the film’s main characters.

Catch Samidha Joglekar on the India Music Network as this young talent who started learning classical Indian music at the age of 10 leaves the listeners spell bound with this unreleased original Hindustani classical Raag  "Jamuna Kinaare" and now her forthcoming film!
