BBC Hindi initiates new series to unite artistes from India and Pakistan

MUMBAI:  BBC Hindi will bring together musicians from India and Pakistan on its special series â€?Friendship beyond Borders'. The series will be broadcasted via partnered FM station across India from 2-7 August.

Friendship beyond Borders features artistes such as Shafqat Amanat Ali, Arif Lohar, Ali Azmat, Rekha Bharadwaj, Salim-Sulaiman and Mohit Chauhan conversing on music, mutual understanding and peace.

Singer/Composer Salim Merchant said, Music has no language. It is a business of the heart. It has no nationality or religion....

Speaking on the â€?Friendship beyond Borders' series, BBC Hindi's India FM editor Rashika Kaul said, Friendship beyond Borders is a one-off series which, we hope, will be a welcome addition to the public dialogue between the two nations. The programming reflects hope and reconciliation expressed through music.  It brings musicians from different genres and across the borders to talk about the issues that really matter to the people of both countries....

Friendship beyond Borders series will conclude on Friendship Day, 7 August with a special edition of the BBC Hindi's popular weekly chat-show �BBC Ek Mulaqat.' The show will bring together internationally acclaimed rock musicians fusion band - Indian Ocean, and pop band - Strings.

Indian Ocean's lead singer, Rahul Ram said, Music has always been a means of expression in India. We believe in making music which makes people think and influences them to make a change....

The BBC Hindi shortwave will re-broadcast the series on 15 August, and the hindi website will feature special stories based on the series.
