Rockstar sweeps Mirchi Music Awards

MUMBAI: Emerging as a leader in all the major music awards, Rockstar continued its winning streak in the fourth edition of Mirchi Music Awards held yesterday evening.
Rockstar bagged five honours including the Best Album of the Year, Best Music Director (AR Rahman for Nadaan Parindey), Best Album of the Year (Mirchi Listeners Choice), Best Song of the Year Mirchi Listeners Choice (Nadaan Parinde) and Best Song Representing Sufi Tradition (Kun Faya Kun).
Following up with four awards was The Dirty Picture, which picked up Best Upcoming Singer of the year Male (Kamal Khan for Ishq Sufiyana), Best Item Number (Ooh La La), Best Female vocalist (Sunidhi Chauhan for Ishq Sufiyana) and Best Male Vocalist (Kamal Khan for Ishq Sufiyana).
Other major winners of the night included Shankar Ehsaan Loy (Best Song of the year – Senorita) and Javed Akhtar (Best Lyricist – Khaabon Ke Parinde) for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Harshit Saxena (Best Upcoming Music Director of the year - Hale Dil) for Murder 2.
Special honours were conferred upon to Pandit Channulal Misra (Special Recognition), Khayyam (Lifetime Achievement Award), Awaara (Best Album of the Golden Era - Shankar Jaikishen and Raj Kapoor), Dhanush and Anirudh (Royal Stag Make it Large Award) and Babla Shah (Jury Award for Outstanding Contribution to Hind Film Music).
The highlight of the evening was a live jugalbandi by musical talents like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Lalit Pandit, Salim-Suleiman, Ram Sampath, Sajid-Wajid and Leslie Lewis.
The ceremony was a convergence of music artistes and bollywood stars coming together and paying tribute to the gems of music industry. The night witnessed a performance by Sonu Nigam who paid musical tribute to the legends that passed away last year.
Other performers of the night included Bollywood superstar Saif Ali Khan jamming with the band Parikrama, Shreya Ghoshal with Bappi Lahiri, Mika, Harshdeep Kaur, Neha Bhasin, Anushka Manchanda, Tochi Raina, Dominique & Clinton Cerejo and Kamal Khan amongst others.
The Mirchi Music Awards will be aired on Colors on 31 March at 9 pm.
