'Tayyab Ali Pyaar Ka Dushman' was recorded 3-4 times: Javed Ali

MUMBAI: An evergreen song ‘Tayyab Ali Pyaar Ka Dushman’ that brings the memory of veteran romantic hero Rishi Kapoor singing his heart out to his love Neetu Kapoor in ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ will have a new face and voice (Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha) in the latest flick ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara’ (OUATIMD).

Javed Ali, who has rendered the track says, “The track only has the catchy line ‘Tayyab Ali Pyaar Ka Dushman’ but rest is a fresh set of lyrics.” The music of the film is composed by Pritam and lyrics is penned by Rajat Arora.

“I was strongly briefed by Pritam da that the track should have Rafi sahab’s feel along with Javed Ali style. The old track ‘Tayyab Ali Pyaar Ka Dushman’ was never heard by me completely but as I had to render it for the film I heard it carefully.” Ali informs.

The super hit evergreen song is from Manmohan Desai’s ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi, Neetu Singh, Pran, Nirupa Roy and Jeevan. The song was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal, penned by Anand Bakshi and rendered by Mohammed Rafi.

“We recorded the track three-four times as Pritam da wanted the track to have Rafi sahab’s flavour along with modern times feel in my voice,” Ali adds.

When asked about his experience having rendered a track associated with legendary Mohammed Rafi, Ali shares, “Having rendered a track that Rafi Sahab is associated with gives me immense pleasure.”

Directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, the film is a sequel to the 2010 hit film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.

The talented singer has worked with Pritam in films like Jab We Met, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Tum Mile to name a few. “It is very difficult to convince Pritam da as he records again and again till the time he does not get the right scale and the right feel. He sees to it that the style and expression of artiste is right. I enjoy his style a lot as it helps me explore as an artiste.”

Currently, Ali has rendered tracks with Ismail Darbar, AR Rahman, Sohail Sen and Amit Trivedi.
