MUMBAI: Kalpana Patowary, the powerhouse performer and an invaluable fount of Indian music, also known as 'the Bhojpuri Queen' is going to sing for music director Anu Malik’s next.
Confirming the reports, Kalpana said, “I have recorded one song for 'Begum Jaan'. Anu Malik is the music composer for the film. He is getting back after the groundbreaking number ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’. The song is a folk based song and I am satisfied with the essence of the song. Music will be on T-series.”
Kalpana Patowary, a multilingual folk singer from Assam, is a disciple of the legendary Hindustani classical singer, Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan and is greatly influenced by the bard of the Brahmaputra - Bhupen Hazarika.
Produced by Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt, ‘Begum Jaan’ is an upcoming historical drama film directed by Srijit Mukherji. Anu Malik, who is coming back to the industry after ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ has scored the music for the film.
In addition, after a ten year long hiatus, legendary singer Asha Bhosle is also collaborating with the veteran composer. She will be seen crooning a classical melody for Begum Jaan, an adaptation of the 2015 Bengali film ‘Rajkahini’. Starring Vidya Balan in the lead role, the film is scheduled for release in March 2017.
