MUMBAI: The sensational YouTube rapper who is ruling the Bollywood music industry with his marvellous talent and songs, Badshah, has turned a producer for a new musical web show Lockdown.

This is not an ordinary music reality show. Here a pair of singers will be teamed up that consist of one YouTube sensational and one known Bollywood playback singer. The team will have 24 hours to re-produce two old songs, record and shoot them.

The pairs for Lockdown are rapper Raftaar with YouTuber TB, composer duo Sachin-Jigar with Shirley Setia, rapper Badshah with Jonita Gandhi, singer Papon with Sonu Kakkar and singer Kailash Kher with Raja Kumari.

On asking Badshah the whereabouts of the roots the idea came from, he said, “Lockdown is an outcome of the brainstorming with the ZEE5 team. I wanted to come up with a music show, obviously not something which I am not much aware of. So as a producer I wanted to do something I am very proud of and something I am very comfortable with.”

“Then we thought of remixing the songs and then we settled to re-making songs along with the video. These are not going to be your ordinary remixes. Some songs are as old as the folk of India, while some are from the 90’s, some recent, some are 60’s, 70’s – basically a mix of a lot of timelines,” he further explained.

Badshah is well known for experimenting in the music business scene and being a producer is one of them. Every new opportunity in life comes with great passion and a few challenges too.

The Kar Gai Chull hitmaker also faced various challenges which he elaborated, “The team that I am working with has been really amazing – who has been taking care of a lot of things. Many artists were approached for this but as it is the peak season time, a lot of artists are busy with their shows and gigs, so it was a bit difficult for us to get their dates. Also it is such an intensive show that you have to be focused at the peak as an artiste because you have to deliver – so that was a bit of challenge.”

The show has been designed keeping in mind the consumers' and artists' point of view. The thrilling idea was important to even excite the participants, while they were approached with the show.

“They (the artists) were really excited as it was a huge opportunity for them too. Also to learn new tricks from people who have made a mark in the industry. They were also excited to be a part of the show as I am sure it will turn out to be a huge show and for them a big platform to show even more of their skills,” stated the Mercy singer.

Badshah is all prepared for the show as last week he was with his partner Jonita Gandhi in Chandigarh for the episode. “Jonita and I had done a song together – The Break Up Song, but we haven’t met officially and got a chance to wipe out. It was great to meet such an amazing singer,” Badshah ended.  

Talking about other plans apart from ZEE5, the trend-setter has an album waiting to release from the past two years, which he will be finally releasing in June this year.
