MUMBAI: Singer Akriti Kakar’s new section on her YouTube #YouChooseISing is a rage amongst fans. Thus, Akriti keeps churning content for her YouTube channel and her recent treat to her fans is a cover song.

“Whenever I record a song, I have an idea in my mind about how the video should be. This is the third video for my #YouChooseISing YouTube,” says Akriti.

Comprising a mashup of Dilbaro, Din Shagna and Madhaniya, which is nicely blended into one song, has some great video ideas, connecting the audience on a deeper level.

The video features Akriti, showing moments of vidaai from her marriage. The singer has also collected father-daughter, from friends and families that are also a part of the song.

On the concept and making of the song, Akriti shares, “Earlier I thought of singing Dilbaro and Madhaniy, but then we (my musician and I) needed some music. So we thought of taking it from Din Shagna. Later we decided to have a bit of Din Shagna in the song and this is how it was created on the spot.”

Giving insights on working on the song, she says, “Doing things impromptu creates magic and has an emotional feeling, otherwise, planning takes the technical mode and that is how I work as a musician.” She has followed the same in her last three songs, released on her YouTube channel.

On how the concept of #YouChooseISing came into existence, she explains, “My fans usually keep asking me to sing for them. So, I decided to come up with this concept. So, before going ahead with a song, I ask my fans choice of song, via social media and then I start working on them.”

The first song released was Patola and Nah Ja and next was Mann Bharya and Qismat mashup. “Patola was difficult because it is a very up-tempo song but I managed to do it with a combination of my voice and guitar. Mann Bharya was a song that I was just aware of, but had not heard with attention. When people asked me to attempt this one, I went ahead with a collaboration of two-hit Punjabi songs. The response was just amazing. Even B Praak and Guru Randhawa appreciated,” adds the singer.

Akriti’s #YouChooseISing concept has got a good response from the audience. On this, she exclaims, “I love to see so many organic views. This is a unique concept where nothing as such is seen on YouTube and I am glad my audience loves it.”

Meanwhile, Akriti will soon be doing a poll on her social media for her next music video. But this time, the singer wishes to change the genre and is thinking crooning a funky and upbeat song.
