Mumbai: Payal Dev, a young and fresh voice, has been making news for all the right reasons. Her recent songs for Veere Di Wedding (title track) got her immense appreciation and now she has rendered her voice for Parineeti Chopra for her upcoming film, Namaste England.
Payal started learning music from her mother, who used to teach music in school, “I started with classical music. However, I was never much inclined towards it, but my mom insisted to learn as that is the base. My liking was more towards Hindi film music. Hence, my family encouraged me and made sure that I heard songs of Ashaji (Asha Bhosale) and Lataji (Lata Mangeshkar),” shares Payal.
Soon, she was introduced to the dream world of Hindi music and what’s more, a stroke of luck introduced her to Salman Khan. “It was a dream come true. When he heard me singing, he promised me a song. However, I told him that I am just happy meeting him. But as he is known, he kept me in mind and gave me the track Dhuan Dhuan in Race 3. He said and stood by his famous dialogue, “Ek baar jo maine Commitment kardi”. I am over the moon.”
She continues, “Salman and Sonakshi were and are my favourite pair and I also had a chance to sing for Welcome to Newyork. During the same time, I met Salman Sir.”
Coming to her latest track, Bhare Bazaar, which is composed by Rishi Rich and Badshaah and sung by Vishal Dadlani, Payal and Badshah. Speaking about the song, Payal shares, “The biggest USP of this song is the combination of Vishal sir (Dadlani) and Badshah. When Badshah bhai told me lets record for a song, I didn’t know it was for this. The recording happened and later, I got to know for which movie it is.”
Speaking about Badshah, Payal says, “I know Badshah bhai for a long time. Apart from being an amazing musician, he is a gem of a person too.”
While she is making her own niche in the playback world, Payal is also creating her portfolio in independent music. As she shares, “I did my single Kamli Kamli with T-Series earlier. The rest of the year too, I am planning for many singles and looking forward to it.”
