MUMBAI: Mithoon's run of success, which started with his 2013 hit 'Tum Hi Ho' has continued in 2014 as well with the tracks 'Baarish' and 'Banjaara'. Juggling several different roles- singer, composer and lyricist, Mithoon was approached by MTV Unplugged to perform a few of his chartbusters on an upcoming episode.
The singer's set comprises four songs namely Humdard', 'Baarish', 'Baanjara', and 'Maula Mere Maula Mere', a soulful number from 2007. Of these, he will be singing two tracks- 'Maula Mere Maula Mere' and 'Humdard', which is a duet with Palak Muchhal. The set also includes an instrumental version of the romantic chartbuster 'Tum Hi Ho'. Explaining the reason for including that particular version Mithoon said, “The song is so well received by everyone that I wanted to bring out a lesser heard version.”
The other two songs- 'Baarish' and 'Banjaara' will be sung by Mohammad Irfan, with additional vocals from Shasha Tirupati.
Like always, Mithoon will give the track 'Banjaara' a completely different sound by infusing it with a bit of Arabic, which is why he chose Shashaa Tirupati. “I was looking out for someone who could bring in an Arabic feel to the song. So someone had sent me Shasha's work and I thought her voice will match my expectations, thus we got her on board.” According to Mithoon, the instrumentation was more about acoustics and bringing out the unplugged sound of the songs.
An excited Irfan, who will also be seen performing for the episode said, “I am really very happy as I have always loved watching the show. Now that I am a part of it this season, I am looking forward to the responses from audiences on the revised version.” Talking about the songs he performed on the show he said, “I really did not have to work much on my rendition because most of the changes were made to the musical arrangements, which were amazingly designed by Mithoon sir. I only had to react to the music which gave the songs a new colour.”
Previously, MTV Unplugged has featured a number of popular Indian artistes like Ankit Tiwari, Vishal Dadlani, Amit Trivedi and Papon, amongst others.
