AIR profiles women achievers on Women's Day

New Delhi: 'Hum Hain Na' , a show commemorating the accomplishments of Indian women in various professions will be broadcast by All India Radio on Tuesday to mark International Women’s Day.

The programme will be aired on the AIR National Channel from 8.05 pm.

In keeping with the theme of gender equality, the programme will highlight women’s struggles in a conservative and patriarchal society and their achievements despite the odds.

The broadcast is a tribute to some women achievers who have achieved new milestones in their professions as well as the Indian society.

These include Sulabh International Honorary President Usha Chaumar who is a recipient of Safaigiri Award in 2015 for Cleanest Ghat - Assi Ghat in Varanasi. A manual scavenger from the Rajasthan district of Alwar, Chaumar has broken new ground for untouchables in their fight towards gaining recognition and respect in Indian society.

Another notable person featuring in the programme is Shahastra Seema Bal DG Archana Ramasundarm who is the first woman to head the paramilitary force. Being an IPS officer from Kerala Cadre, she has faced hardships before acquiring this position.

Anita Deshpande, a paraglider, and Major Neha Bhatnagar serving in the Indian Army are among many others who will feature in the programme.
