Sony Ericsson launches motion activated headphones

MUMBAI: Sony Ericsson has announced what it claims are the world's first motion-activated headphones. Plugging in the pair of earbuds starts music playback automatically while removing one of them will pause the track.

The new button-free MH907 headphones, the gesture-based buds are described as the world's first ever motion activated headphones....

Imbued with Sony Ericsson's proprietary SensMe Control' technology, users need only plunge the buds into their ears in order for music to be automatically channeled. Similarly, removal of both buds will stop the flow of music, while the removal of one bud will execute the pause function. Sony Ericsson apparently achieves this via capacitive sensing technology; i.e. it makes use of your skin (ears in this case) as an electrical conduit.

Aside from music playback, you can perform the same actions for answering and ending calls. Receiving, ending and pausing incoming phone calls is accomplished using the same movements.

With the MH907 consumers can pocket their phone but still stay connected all day, every day by simply plugging in or removing their earbuds – there is no need for a remote control or any buttons,...
commented Jacob SEMC Accessories senior vice president Jacob Stein.

Other features include Clear Audio for superior sound, a built-in microphone for on-the-go phone chat, magnetic shielding, neodymium magnet units, an integrated FM antenna, and a cable length of 164mm.

The headphones are available in Yellow/White and Titan Chrome and compatible with handsets equipped with a fast port connector. It handset is priced at around $55 USD (€39 Euros) though the launch date has not been confirmed.
