Indian "Raga Pianist" Utsav Lal wins Ireland's MAMA Awards 2008

MUMBAI: Acclaimed worldwide for his Indian classical ragas... on the believe it or not... Grand Piano, young Indian Pianist, based in Dublin, Utsav Lal has added one more laurel to his musical pursuits. With multiple Raga Piano concerts at prestigious venues in Ireland, UK & Europe, Utsav has bagged the title of the winner for the coveted Media & Multicultural Awards (MAMA) 2008.

The annual awards founded by Metroeireann & Iris O'Brien foundation are Ireland's way of recognizing excellence & initiatives of people & organizations who have worked to celebrate & promote cultural diversity in the country. Utsav's musical achievements were no mean feat, with him having taken the sound of ragas on Piano to many reputed events including Festival of World Cultures, National Concert Hall, Dublin, and Music amongst Mosaics etc.

First commended by the Embassy of India in Ireland who nominated Utsav Lal, "Raga Pianist" for the awards, the eminent jury panel said that… "amongst the short listed award contenders, Utsav's entry touched their hearts." He was the youngest award winner and the first Indian to win the award at the glittering ceremony at Abbey Theatre, Dublin on 27th Nov 2008 in the seven years of the running of MAMA Awards.

In his acceptance speech, while Utsav thanked all for their support & said that Irish audiences, like Indians are music lovers. Their overwhelming response to Indian classical music on the piano proves once again that Music unites globally and speaks one language. Invited on the Irish national Talk show post his win, Utsav said , "I',m proud to be an Indian and I just want to focus on taking the magical sound of ragas on the Piano to as many people as I can."
