ITC Sangeet Sammelan starts Jan 8

MUMBAI: In continuation to promote Indian classical music, the ITC Sangeet Research Academy (SRA) Monday announced Sangeet Sammelan 2010... to be held in Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi.

ITC SRA Sangeet Sammelan 2010 will kick start in Kolkata from January 8-10; followed by Bangalore (March 13-14), Hyderabad (April 3-4), and Delhi (April 17-18).

Announcing the dates, Ravi Mathur, Executive Director, ITC Sangeet Research Academy said, Sangeet Sammelan has charged the classical music scenario with a new vibrancy, the Academy's documentation and analysis of oral traditions have added value to music education, and scientific research has proved that art and science can harmoniously co-exist....

The event will present a host of renowned performers besides ITC Sangeet Research Academy Gurus and Scholars –both former and present.

Speaking at the occasion, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Guru and one of the first scholars of ITC SRA said, ITC SRA embodies a living and learning relationship between master and pupil which traditionally signifies the complete emotional, intellectual and spiritual bonding of the ardent shishya and the guru....

The present Gurus at the Academy constitute a veritable galaxy of renowned musicians like Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Arun Bhaduri, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan, Pandit Falguni Mitra and Vidushi Girija Devi.

Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta (Sarod) and Pandit Manilal Nag (Sitar) are the Gurus for the Instrumental Section of the Academy.
