Pix to telecast Bafta awards live
MUMBAI: Sony Pix has bagged the India telecast rights of the BAFTA Awards 2009, to be held on 9 February at the Royal Opera House in London at 5.30 am. The live telecast will be followed by the repeat telecast at 10 pm on the same day
Pix has slated the Bafta movie-marathon from 1 - 9 February, in which Bafta award winning movies from the previous years like The Silence of the Lambs, Big Fish, East is East, When Harry Met Sally, Philadelphia, Trauma, Chicago, Close Encounter of the Third Kind and The Queen will be aired.
Slumdog Millionaire has been nominated for the highest number of nominations in the history of Bafta Awards with 11 nominations, including one for A R Rahman's score.
Pix business head Sunder Aaron said, "As a channel that airs English movies it is an honor to have the exclusive rights to telecast the BAFTA Awards, an evening that sees the work of several great films, get felicitated. It's also going to be a special moment for our audience as Danny Boyle's film based in India 'Slumdog Millionaire' receives global recognition."
Apart from Slumdog Millionaire, other films that stand to contend for Best Films are Milk, Forst/Nixon, The Reader and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
