MUMBAI: Award-winning singer/songwriter Shahin Badar – of �the Prodigy' fame – has been nominated for best alternative act for the Asian Music Awards (AMAS) 2009.

Best known for her spine-tingling vocals on the Prodigy's �Smack my Bitch up' smash-hit1, Shahin returns to the music scene, for the first time in two years after recovering from serious illness, with the release of her debut solo album �Laila'.

Shahin Badar, who lives in London, said:

I'm thrilled to be nominated for an AMA after such a long stint away from the music scene.

My new album â€?Laila' features an eclectic mix of Electronica, Arabic and Indian sounds  - so there's something that appeals to everyone.

I'm the only female in the alternative music category so hopefully girl-power will prevail on the night....
