Justin Bieber becomes youngest artist with five chart topping albums

MUMBAI: After earning widespread popularity and numerous awards for his music, teen pop sensation Justin Bieber has now earned the title of becoming the youngest artiste to have released five chart topping albums in US.

He has attained the title as his latest album ‘Believe Acoustic’ debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart on Wednesday. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the soundtrack has already sold around 211,000 copies in its first week.

The album also performed strongly with digital retailers, as 75 per cent of its sales were generated by downloads. As per reports, iTunes pre-orders amounted to around 20-25 per cent of the album's overall first week, and it also topped iTunes downloads charts in 63 countries.

The singer tweeted, “WE did it! #HISTORY - thank u. #BELIEVEacoustic is the #1 selling album in the WORLD and OUR fifth #1! First time ever! OUR ALBUMS! thank u. let's keep it going...we got more HISTORY TO MAKE! LOVE U! Hope u are enjoying the albums and the music. That is what it is all about..MUSIC”

‘Believe Acoustic’ comprises of eight acoustic and live tracks originally found on Bieber’s ‘Believe’ studio album, released last year. The soundtrack also includes three new recordings namely ‘Yellow Raincoat’, ‘I Would’ and ‘Nothing Like Us’.

Bieber now becomes the only artiste to have released five number one albums before turning 19 years old. He was on par with Miley Cyrus, who had also released four chart topping albums before her 19 birthday.

The ‘Baby’ singer’s new album also gets him the tag of having a number one album for four consecutive years; something only nine earlier acts have done in the nearly 57-year history of the Billboard 200.

His previous number one albums include ‘My World 2.0’ (2010), ‘Never Say Never: The Remixes’ (2011), ‘Under the Mistletoe’ (2011) and ‘Believe’ (2012).

The teen sensation recently broke another record, by managing to topple Lady Gaga on Twitter. Bieber is now the most-followed person on the social networking site with 33.8 million fans.
