Latin Grammy winners announced

MUMBAI: Veteran Columbian rocker Juanes and Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy, were the big winners at the 13th Annual Latin Grammy Awards held on 15 November in Las Vegas.

The Mexican brother-sister duo walked away with four trophies including ‘Best Song’ and ‘Best Recording’ for their hit single ‘Corre!’, whereas Juanes won the coveted title ‘Album of the Year’ for ‘MTV Unplugged’.

Dominican singer-songwriter  Juan Luis Guerra who had six Latin Grammy nominations this year won ‘Producer of the Year’ for Juanes’ ‘MTV Unplugged’.

Jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval received three Latin Grammy’s including ‘Best Jazz Album and Best Engineered Album for ‘Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You)’, and Best Tango album for ‘Tango Como Yo Te Siento’. ‘Best New Artist’ was awarded to 3Ball MTY, a trio of electronic musicians from Monterrey, Mexico, who rose to prominence this year with single ‘Inténtalo’.

The venerated Brazilian songwriter Caetano Veloso was felicitated with Latin Grammy Person of the Year Award. Other artistes to win Latin Grammy title included Lila Downs, Fonseca, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Milly Quezada, Pepe Aguilar and Yalil Guerra.

The performances ranged across Latin genres, from electronica to folk featuring acts by Caetano Veloso, Juanes with the guitarist Carlos Santana, Prince Royce with Joan Sebastian, Guerra, Downs accompanied by Totó La Momposina and Celso Pi?a, 3Ball MTY was joined by America Sierra, El Bebeto and LMFAO’s Sky Blu for a medley of dance-pop.  Pitbull, Sensato and Spanish DJ Sak Noel culminated the show with the revised version of Pitbull’s Crazy People.
