MTV launches pro-socio platform 'Voices'; honours Justin Bieber

MUMBAI: MTV will launch an online pro-social platform MTV Voices' highlighting the content produced by international and local music artistes. The unique online space will go live on Saturday 5 November.

MTV will also honour Justin Bieber and the Northern Ireland Youth Forum for first-ever MTV Voices Awards at a special event held during the "2011 MTV EMA" weekend in Belfast. Bieber will be recognized for his Believe Charity Drive' initiative that aims to raise funds for 20 charities around the world. And also for the involvement in Make a Wish Foundation and Pencils of Promises, which helps build schools for children who don't have access to education.

Viacom International Media Networks social responsibility SVP Georgia Arnold said, "MTV Voices is a compelling new platform where our audience can share its voice and its talent with us; where music artists can reveal the inspiration behind the themes in their work; and where all of us can dig deeper into issues like bullying, self-confidence or body image that are explored by MTV shows. Most of all, MTV Voices aims to give people new opportunities to engage, connect and inspire each other - to start conversations and change perspectives that move us all in a more positive direction."

Each year MTV will also recognize a local organization from the show whose mission reflects the spirit of Voices' at the MTV EMA. This year's recipient will be the Northern Ireland Youth Forum (NIYF), a youth-led organisation that inspire youth to highlight issues that affect them.

NIYF said, "We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. It is extremely humbling that MTV wants to recognize our work. We would like to dedicate the award to each and every one of the thousands of young people we work with -- locally, nationally and internationally. We hope that this award helps us to continue to build belief and hope that young people really can make a difference."

The 18th Annual 2011 MTV EMA' sponsored by Dell, Replay, Hyundai and Swatch will premiere on Sunday, 6 November at 9pm CET from Belfast.
