Shakira honoured as Latin Grammy Person of the Year

MUMBAI: International pop star Shakira was honoured as the �2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year' on 9 November in Las Vegas.

Latin music stars paid tribute to Shakira by performing on her hit tracks like Hips Don't Lie, La Tortura and Estoy at the concert.

The 34-year-old singer, who has sold more than 60 million albums in Spanish and English is the youngest person to receive the Latin Recording Academy award. The previous honours include Carlos Santana, Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin.

Shakira was presented with the crystal statute by singer Marc Anthony. On receiving the honour Shakira said, I'll carry this night with me always. It's an honour that I am not sure I deserve, but you've made me very happy."

The recognition came amid a red-letter week for Shakira, as she received her own star on the �Hollywood Walk of Fame' in Los Angeles on 8 November. The pop singer has also been nominated for three awards at the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards including album of the year.
