Bollywood stars who started their careers with music videos

MUMBAI: The 1990s was a time when music videos used to feature gratifying stunners. Some of them were noticed and made their way into films. But their start was often the humble music video that aired on MTV and others of its ilk. 

Priyanka Chopra- Sajan Mere Satrangiya

Now she sings too, but not many know, the diva appeared in Daler Mehendi’s music video at the age of 17 for the music album ‘Ek Dana’ in  2000 before she entered Bollywood.

Vidya Balan- Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali

The National Award recipient Vidya Balan tried her hand in different arts. The South Indian beauty featured in Euphoria’s music album, which was a huge hit in 2003.  

Nauheed Cyrusi- Piya Basanti

Kickstarting her career as a model, Nauheed impressed everyone with her music video, which gained immense popularity in 2000. Sultan Khan and  K S Chithra are the singers for the musical composition.

Deepika Padukone- Naam Hai Tera (Remix) (2006)

After dominating the Bollywood industry with her impeccable acting skills, Deepika is now set to mark in Hollywood as well. In 2006, the beguiling beauty featured in Deepika Padukone’s remix version of the song ‘Naam Hai Tera’ and shot into the limelight.

Shahid Kapoor- Ankhon Mein

The actor with the killer smile and robust acting once emerged in the music video by a band named ‘Aryans’ in 1996. It is unbelievable to believe the video actually features Shahid who is now one of the best actors in Bollywood.  

John Abraham- Chupke Chupke

Before bowling us with his looks in Bollywood, John was a little-known model who appeared in quite a few music videos. One of the videos is Chupke Chupke from the album ‘Mehek’ in 1999 by gazal maestro Pankaj Udhas.

Bipasha Basu- Tu Kab Janegi (1998)

Sonu Nigam resides in  fans' hearts because of his singing and Bipasha Basu steals hearts with her stunning looks. But before debuting in Hindi cinema, Bipasha was seen in Sonu Nigam’s video album ‘Kismat’ in 1998.

Riya Sen- Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi (1999)

Nobody can forget the era of Falguni Pathak’s back-to-back hit tracks. One of the famous numbers in which Riya Sen pops up was ‘Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi’in 1999.

Ayesha Takia- Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jae (2000)

Ayesha Takia who appears to have settled down into domesticity after a brief but dazzling career in films, first made herself visible in another Falguni Pathak song and grabbed numerous eyeballs.

Diya Mirza- Na Marte Hum (2001)

We rarely see an actor get a chance to feature in a music video with the iconic Asha Bhosle. Diya Mirza, before clutching International beauty titles and Bollywood films, was seen in a music video in 2001 with actor Aashish Chaudhary.

Amrita Rao- Woh Pyar Mera (2002)

The girl who mesmerised us all with her performance in the film ‘Vivaah’ went unnoticed in Alisha Chinai’s music video in 2002. It is almost difficult to recognise her in the video.
