MUMBAI: Delhi based Alt-Metal band - May Island is all set to release its debut EP in the first week of October, 2015. The EP, titled ‘Eleonora’, will have four instrumental tracks, which have been worked on by the band’s two members- Vishnu Kumar and Aaron Almeida.
Speaking about the upcoming release, Kumar said, “Eleonora’ is about hope and looking forward to overcoming challenges, having strength and giving strength to others. The EP sounds like a journey if you go from ‘Stone Spirit’ to ‘Honest Joy’. Our everyday life is a journey of ups and downs, and one really needs to have a strong spirit and be able to fight to find hope.”
‘Eleonora’ and ‘August’ are the other two tracks on the EP.
The group exclusively revealed the art-work to Radioandmusic.com. The art-work has been designed by Bangalore-based artist, Sonali Zohra.
Essentially, Eleonora is a journey but the art is open to interpretation. It will symbolise different things to different people who will listen to this album according to Kumar. He further added, "When we started working on it with Sonali, we talked of a place that the music would take you to. The rest was up to her to interpret. As she heard to the music and drew, this is what took shape. Personally, when I look at it, I see a really positive zone where I can accomplish wonderful things."
Although the duo has one EP almost ready for release, and another one in the works, they were initially unsure of where they were going, mainly because of lack of resources. “When Aaron and I first came together as a band, we were not sure of exactly what would happen. We were just two people, working together, and we did not have a vocalist,” said Kumar, who plays guitar while Almeida accompanies him on drums.
After realising that they really wanted to make music together, they planned a series of songs. Kumar revealed that the duo even tried bringing on board a vocalist, but were unable to. “I think it takes time to find someone and form a relationship and work with them. Aaron and I are very tight, and we know what we want now. Things have changed, and we are certain that we can work on lyrics too. So, I have started writing, and I also coach myself. We have already decided that our next EP will have lyrics. It is easier to communicate when you have words to the music,” he added.
With the idea that May Island’s next EP will have lyrics, the two already have the first track ready, titled ‘Memory Man’. “The new music we are working on is pretty different to this EP. It will have lyrics and I will provide vocals for the tracks. It is just that we are changing as a band in the way we talk and think,” added the guitarist.
May Island also plans to start performing live, and will probably be helped out by other musicians for live gigs, Kumar averred.
