MUMBAI: In its last season, ‘MTV Spoken Word’ featured some of India’s most popular rappers including Yo Yo Honey Singh, Raftaar, Baadshah, Jazzy B, Manj Musik and Ikka, among others. If you thought that was good, the show’s second season has stepped things up a notch. For season two, it has managed to rope in one of the world’s most famous rappers- Snoop Dogg.
The first video for this season’s ‘MTV Spoken Word’ was released on 30 September on Jazzy B’s YouTube channel. Titled ‘Most Wanted’, the track features Snoop Dogg, Jazzy B and Mr. Capone E, and was shot in London and Mumbai.
Speaking about how MTV managed to bring the Grammy-nominated rapper onboard this project, MTV head of music content, Jagjit Singh said, “We have been approaching artists for various projects. We had been trying to get Snoop Dogg on board for a project too. Luckily for us he liked the idea of ‘MTV Spoken Word’ and that is how the video happened.”
Apparently, Mr. Capone E was also instrumental in bringing the ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ hitmaker onboard.
Singh revealed that Punjabi singer, Jazzy B, re-recorded the track because he was not pleased with the way it turned out, the first time round. “Jazzy B likes recording in Planet Records, but we recorded with him in another studio, and he was not too happy with the outcome. So he went back to Planet Records and re-recorded his part,” he added.
Singh also hinted that it is likely that viewers might see more international artists on this season of ‘MTV Spoken Word’. “You never know. This season might be a mix of national and international stars,” he said.
The team at MTV has also begun work on ‘MTV Unplugged – Season 5’. The shooting for the same will begin by the end of this month, and will air by the end of November.
