MUMBAI: 'Mumbai Blues' creator and winner of a GIMA Award for the same album, Mihir Joshi, who is best known as a rock musician, is trying his hands at something new these days. And the opportunity is being provided to him by Indian music label- Times Music.
Joshi recently sang a song for the festival of Ganesh Utsav, titled ‘Ganpati Stotram’, which was released by Times Music Spiritual, and he will be singing more songs under the label. His new ventures in music will see the vocalist move away from his comfort zone, and branch into other music genres.
The singer revealed that his experimentation with music genres started with the re-creation of a National Anthem for Independence Day. The country already has a national anthem. Joshi re-created an anthem for YouTube, but when a musical app showed interest in the track, he contacted Times Music. The label liked his music and offered various other projects, and so he will be seen releasing singles for various festivals.
Confirming the same Joshi said, “I love Rock ‘n Roll, Blues, and I am primarily an English musician, but I want to sing in different languages now. I think this will help me connect with more people. But, I will remain a western musician even if I sing in any other language because I will sing in my own style.”
The vocalist has tried his hands at freelance writing, photography and RJing, but claims that he did it all to support his musical career. “My number one priority has been my music. Singing in English has never been a career in India, and that is why I did a lot of other things. However, I do not think I should restrict myself to English when I know other languages too. I enjoy singing in different languages,” Joshi added.
Apart from offering vocals in different languages, he is also working on his second album and various other covers. Although Joshi did not divulge details on these projects, he did offer a small insight about the third season of his show ‘The MJ Show’. “I have got a line-up of some fantastic guests to be on my show. The first episode will feature Shankar Mahadevan,” he averred.
The show will air sometime this month.
