MUMBAI: On his visit to India, Grammy winning producer Skrillex opened up about his upcoming album with rapper M.I.A. Early this month, M.I.A. had revealed the making of her upcoming album ‘Matahdatah’ with the American DJ.
Speaking about the process of making M.I.A.’s album, the ‘Bangarang’ songwriter said, “We were just literally having fun, sitting with our laptops, on the floor of our hotel room. That is how we came up with organic, fun and fresh ideas. Blaqstarr – one of my favorite producers from Baltimore was there with us as well. So, this mixture of the three of us actually worked well.”
The DJ spoke fondly about the 'Paper Planes' hitmaker, commending her on being open to try new things. “M.I.A. is just so open and down to do anything and try anything, and every idea is just so nonchalant in the way we are approaching it," Skrillex added.
Apart from M.I.A, he also praised the music work of ‘Chaar Botal Vodka’ rapper- Yo Yo Honey Singh. “I know he is blowing up right now on the dubstep scene; I think his stuff is pretty cool.” He added that Korean music is growing in the US, so it would not be surprising if Indian music makes it big as well.
The DJ revealed he has plans to work with the ‘Sunny Sunny’ singer. According to Skrillex, working with any new artist, known or unknown, depends on “vibes.” Citing the example of Jack Ü, he said, “Even when it comes to Jack U, Wes (DJ Wesley) and I do not have any rules on who we work with or do not work with. It is just all about what vibes are right and what feels natural. We ran into Justin (Bieber) in a very organic situation, so, it was awesome. I think Justin is just one of those talented people in the world.”
Skrillex also admitted his love for Bollywood and hopes to take “some Bollywood records back home" when his India tour is over.
He will be seen working closely with Bieber for his new album. Apart from that, he will also be working with The Game, A$AP Ferg, Peter Gabriel and many other names he refrained from revealing.
Skrillex is in the country to perform for Vh1 Supersonic Arcade. Today, he will perform at Bangalore, followed by Hyderabad, Delhi and Mumbai.
