I want to emerge as an honest and passionate singer: Nirupan Sinha

MUMBAI: Nirupan Sinha, an ex-contestant of Colors Infinity’s ‘The Stage’ was not just another fresher in the music spectrum when he participated on the show. During his college days, Sinha claims to have participated in various competitions, and even won a number of them. His grandfather was a disciple of Rabindranath Tagore, which is why, he said, everyone on ‘The Stage’ expected him to go a long way on the show, but he failed to do so. However, the one thing that he is taking back home with him is knowledge.

In conversation with Radioanadmusic.com, Sinha who is currently a part of two bands- Teller, and his own Nirupan Sinha, revealed that there are a lot of musical aspects that he never explored before. But being on ‘The Stage’ has opened his eyes towards them. “The show opened my eyes towards the business and promotional aspects of music. The judges on the show also taught me a lot about music. They always told us about things that we must do as musicians. These things have helped me grow as a musician,” said Sinha.

Although the singer has managed to learn a lot from ‘The Stage’ in a short span of time, he wishes to have stayed a bit longer. Sinha explained that just like everyone else, he also had a lot of hopes and aspirations while on the reality singing show. “This was an offset to my existence because I have always won competitions. So, the elimination was upsetting and unfortunate. Though, I would have loved to go ahead,” stated the singer.

Despite his slightly early exit, Sinha said that he has matured with each episode. Moreover, it was a fantastic journey for him as he got to spend time with other contestants who are equally talented. He also revealed that he is not only going to stay in touch with his co-contestants, but also plans to collaborate with them in the future.

Sinha, who is not musically trained, is more than just a singer. He is also a songwriter, and can play several musical instruments including the guitar, percussion, keyboard and melodica. “I am a ‘feel musician’. By ‘feel musician’ I am mean someone who feels the music and plays or sings according to occasion. I genuinely believe that music is an expression and I like expressing it in different ways. So, I am not restricted to a particular genre of music. Plus, being a strong performer helps me a lot. I can express myself easily as I do not believe in holding back,” Sinha explained.

With his talent and skills, Sinha hopes to get into Bollywood someday, and the two musicians he would like to work with are ‘The Stage’ judes- Visha Dadlani and Ehsaan Noorani, as he has always looked up to them as musicians. Another musician who Sinha would work for without demands is A.R. Rahman. He would also like to work with Amit Trivedi as he believes Trivedi’s music is progressive.

However Sinha would not like to limit himself to just singing, and would also like to try music composition. But whatever he does, the singer said that he wants to emerge as an honest and passionate singer and composer in Bollywood, if he gets through.
