MUMBAI: Since plans began to create a biopic surrounding Queen's Freddie Mercury in 2010, the project has faced a number of hurdles that lasted over 5 years. Now, the project has received the necessary revival with after the announcement that 'Theory of Everything' screenwriter- Anthony McCarten will be joining the team.
McCarten, who was nominated for an Oscars in the Best Screenplay category for Stephen Hawking's biopic, has been hired to write the script, and if rumours are to be believed, the biopic will be called 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.
'Deadline' reported the announcement with further confirmation that Graham King's 'GK Films' would still continue to produce the film with Queen Films.
The project had been adrift since Sasha Boren Cohen pulled out of the film amidst creative differences with the surviving members of Queen. There are also reports that actor Ben Whishaw, who plays James Bonds's sidekick in ‘Spectre’ and ‘Skyfall’ is considered to play the role of Queen's frontman- Freddie Mercury. However, no official confirmation has been made yet.
The rest of the cast remains unchanged with Johnny Flynn set to play drummer- Roger Taylor, and Gemma Arterton as Mercury's longtime partner Mary Austin.
Production for the biopic will resume in June 2016.
