MUMBAI: Remember the 2003 hit party song ‘Rock Tha Party’ by Danish-Indian Band, Bombay Rockers? We are sure you do. The ame song has now been 'reinvented’ or presented in a different way by the makers of ‘Rocky Handsome’.
The 2016 version of ‘Rock Tha Party’ sounds no different than its 2003 version. The Bombay Rockers have said to have reworked on the song for the movie starring John Abraham and Shruti Haasan. However, the only difference that one would observe is the change of English rap to Punjabi in the latest version of ‘Rock Tha Party’which fails to impress us.
Back in 2003, Bombay Rockers' 'Rock Tha Party' made everyone dance to its beats. The then USP of the band was to introduce fusion music to the Indian audience and that was evident with the release of the track. However, with rolling times the music scene in India has improved vastly. But, the band doesn't seem to have evolved with time. The Punjabi lyrics may have provided an additional element to the sound, however, it does not act as an advantage.
Is it time, filmmakers and music directors rework on the formula of 're-inventing' the hits from the past? If so, they need to acknowledge the evolving music scene, necessities of the consumers and not serve 'old wine in the old bottle.'
To conclude, the 2016 version of 'Rock Tha Party' marks the return of Bombay Rockers but sans the magic.
