MUMBAI: Mumbai-based percussionist Karan Chitra Deshmukh has covered the entire 'Game of Thrones' theme song on a set of compound tablas. He used a set of 10 tablas tuned to different notes. Associated with musicians like Karsh Kale and Papon (Papon and The East India Company), Karan Chitra Deshmukh considers himself as a percussionist and electronic fusion artist.

Radioandmusic.com had a quick discussion with this brilliant musician.

"Basically, I am not a fan of 'Game of Thrones'. One of my cousins who is a huge fan messaged me on Facebook before the new season premiered. On 22 April at night, he asked me to cover the theme song on tabla and I decided to take that. It could be the best time for 'Game of Thrones' fans like my brother. Playing the theme song just on one instrument was challenging. I would say that my brother was my inspiration," said Karan.

Currently, Karan is working on a Sufi project where he intends to combine music, stories and narrative to show how Sufi is reflected in our lives. He believes that India has a rich culture when it comes to classical music. Playing a classical instrument like the tabla has made his musical base stronger and he can contribute in any kind of percussions like Jambee, Kahon and much more, he says.

"I have recently played in the Dumru festival which is the first ever Festival of Percussion in India. I got an offer from Viacom18 to collaborate with them and other digital media companies too, but nothing is confirmed yet. I will be performing in London in May with Karsh Kale and will be continuing doing shows with my associates. New opportunities are always welcome and I am excited about it,' he signs off.
