MUMBAI: United States singer Alicia Keys will perform at the opening ceremony of the UEFA Champions League final, to be held on May 28 at the San Siro stadium in Milan, it was announced on Wednesday.
"I'm extremely excited to share my new music at the UEFA Champions League final, an event that is celebrated in every corner of the world," said Keys, according to Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) official website.
For the first time in history, the final of the Champions League will have a live musical performance as part of the opening ceremony, reports Efe.
"This is going to be a powerful moment in history and one that represents the spirit of all the similarities we share no matter where we live and who we are. I'm honoured to be a special part of such a beloved experience," added the singer.
Viewed in more than 220 countries and reaching more than 180 million viewers, the Champions League final is the sporting event most watched in the world every year.
The Champions League final will be held between the winners of the semi-final games of Real Madrid-Manchester City and Bayern Munich-Atletico Madrid.
