Levi's celebrated its 143rd birthday with four electronic music acts

MUMBAI: On the night of 20 May, the Mehboob Studio in Bandra hosted American clothing company's 143 years so far in the industry. To mark the celebration, four eletronic music acts enthralled the attendees for three hours. Held at the stage 2 of the renowned live music venue of the city, the Levi's 501 Friday effort assured the 'invite-only' event turns out to be the biggest night of the year for the franchise. The brand had created awareness throughout the month of May with the hashtag - #BirthdayOfTheBlueJean.

Madboy - the one half of Madboy/Mink - kicked off the celebrations with compositions from his recently released EP 'Boy'. The songwriter concluded the EP launch tour over a week ago, and the occasion acted as an extension to the tour, as the multi-instrumentalist producer emerged out to be an ideal opening act for the night.

Delhi-based electronic music producer Dualist Inquiry has gradually become synonymous to whatever live scene that promotes the genre. For over five years, the rock-influenced electronic compositions have helped Dualist Inquiry (or Sahej Bakshi) create an identity of his own through the refreshing sound, and as the Levi's documentary suggested, the factor of unique identity makes these artistes as ideal line-up for the celebration. Unlike Dualist's earlier performances, the producer invited his hometown-based band Mosko's vocalist, Kavya Trehan, on the stage. The duo then performed an original composition, created a fortnight ago, to the attendees for the first time. Check out the video -

Anish Sood took over the musical responsibilites of the night, soon after Dualist Inquiry's set came to a close. As the night progressed, the venue filled to its capacity and the conscious love for the denim brand reflected on the artistes as well, with the four musicians sporting Levi's outfit during respective sets (as part of the marketing gimmick). Anish Sood laid a nice rhythm to the night with the techno sounds that set the mood for the headlining act - Nucleya. Sood has created a reputation as the go-to producer for electronic music organisers - festivals, corporate gigs or club nights - and the Goa-based musician proved why. The DJ was soon joined by Dualist Inquiry for most part of the set.

India's most popular bass act Nucleya has so far enjoyed the privilege of performing for a sold out venue, and the night was not any different. With remixes of popular Bollywood track and the trademark Nucleya-fication of original compositions, the yet another Delhi-based producer made Mumbai dance to his bass magic. The 'Bass Rani' tracks escalated Nucleya's rise to glory, and the artist's mainstream approach in the alternative music scene pushes his identity to beyond music lately. The night did not experience any uniquely outstanding music, as the four producers performed the usual sets. The doubt on these musicians' talent towards respective sounds does not exist, however, as a piece of advice - Leave the handling of the smoke machines to the expert, guys!
