MUMBAI: Mr. Gay India 2014 and ‘Bigg Boss Season 8’ contestant Sushant Divgikar will be paying a musical tribute to Sushmita Sen at the KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival. KASHISH - an annual LGBT event that screens gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer films from around the world - will begin today (25 May 2016) with Sona Mohapatra’s performance and the night will end with Divgikar’s tribute to Sen.
“Two women I idolise the most are Sushmita and Rekhaji. Sushmita is a strong woman and I believe that everyone should look up to her. She is one of those very few crown holders who have carried its responsibility. Being a beauty pageant winner is not just about being beautiful and fabulous. It is about changing the immediate society and then the world at large. Sushmita has been doing that for a long time now,” stated Divgikar.
The model-actor also chose Sushmita for the tribute as she completed 22 years of her crowning on 21st of this month. Divgikar who is also a VJ believes that one need not be chronically old to be given a tribute. It’s their body of work that should matter. Therefore, he will be performing a medley of Sushmita’s movie songs on 29 May 2016.
“My performance will begin with an English number and then I will go on to sing the Hindi songs,” stated the singer who will be adding his flavour to these songs.
For an artist usually expressing through English pop numbers, the Bollywood medley celebrating Sen’s achievement surely comes as a surprise. “This is definitely my first public Hindi performance and it will have a lot of ‘Sush’ for the time,” ended he.
