MUMBAI: Punjabi music composer, Gurkanwar Singh Sra, aka GK, is on a musical-high at the moment. The musician who started as a music composer all by himself and saw success in ‘Yaaran Da Katchup’ recently signed a nine cover song deal with Punjabi music label, Speed Records. Thus, GK will be reworking on the music compositions of some famous Punjabi songs.
Two songs out of the nine have already released. The composer has worked with ‘Indian Idol 6’ finalist Deeksha Piyush on the same. “We have already released ‘Akhiya & Pyaar Mera’ and ‘Paranday’. The second song has managed to grab a lot of eyeballs,” said GK who believes that working on an already existing composition is always challenging. “You know that the song was hit at one point of time and that’s why people would want to hear your cover of the same. However, they are expecting you to deliver something new this time. So, the pressure to deliver a good product is always more,” explained he.
However, the covers are not the only project that GK is working on. He has a few projects lined-up for GuSa. GuSa is a DJ duo formed by GK and his good friend DJ Saurabh. The two came together last year to take their love for electronic music to the next level. Currently, they are working on remixed version of Nucleya’s ‘Heer’. “The original track is a trap dubstep but, ours will be a tropical house genre. So, the song will be more melodic in a way,” averred GK whose first film song will release soon. Gk has worked on two songs for Punjabi film ‘Nidhi Singh’ one of which is sung by Neha Kakkar.
The duo chose Nucleya’s ‘Heer’ because they genuinely like the song. But, the track will also be making some way for GuSa’s original track. “We are working on an original number. We haven’t decided the name yet,” said GK who is looking at releasing their version of ‘Heer’ in the first week of July.
GuSa’s first original song is ‘Kumbh’ and their first cover is ‘Jammu’ of singer Kashmir.
GK is also trying his luck in Bollywood and if all goes well he will be seen composing a song for a big Bollywood name.
