MUMBAI: Premier Futsal unveiled their official anthem ‘Naam hai Futsal’ with the musical maestro AR Rahman yesterday in Mumbai. This is the first time Rahman has lent his expertise to a franchise-based sports league in the country.

In addition to that, Premier Futsal League ambassador Virat Kohli has lent his voice for the rap part in the official anthem of Premier Futsal. In the video, Kohli was seen in his element as he shared space with Rahman for the official music video of the Premier Futsal. The track is a peppy one along with catchy beats.

"I am delighted with the outcome of the Premier Futsal Anthem. It was a unique experience for me to compose an anthem for a sports league, something I have never done before. Recording and shooting with Virat Kohli added to the experience and taking the energy to a different level altogether. The Premier Futsal Anthem is fast-paced, peppy and full of swag, these are qualities that we easily associate with Virat and Futsal. I am there with my sound engineer, this recording there was fifty people," said AR Rahman.

“I have been doing my research about music, ragas, musical history since past five-six years. Here we don’t have a platform for a lot of musicians. That's why I started my own production company and my first movie will about music again,” said Rahman while talking about the current music scene in India.

“Biopic on musicians sounds like a wonderful idea. I always wanted to do something about Bismillah Khan, Kumar Gandharva, and R. D. Burman,” added the Oscar-winning composer.

While talking about being the brand ambassador of Olympic 2016, Rahman said, “It doesn’t matter which musician or which film artist is the brand ambassador. I think it’s all about spreading goodness and joy. I am very proud to be a part of Olympic 2016.”

Premier Futsal is a franchise game for a 5-a-side football game. Started by entrepreneurs Abhinandan Balasubramanian, Dinesh Raj, and Nithyashree Subban, the league will have franchises representing Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi. International players like Michel Salgado, Paul Scholes, and Deco will play alongside homegrown talent. Over 50 International Futsal players from 21 countries will be part of the league.

Premier Futsal managing director Dinesh Raj, said, “When you have two champions at work, you are bound to get something really outstanding. The composition of the Premier Futsal Anthem is fast-paced and peppy and depicts the true nature of Futsal. We are very grateful to Mr. Rahman and Virat for giving us something so special which will be etched in history forever.”

Futsal Association of India’s founding president Namdev Shirgaonker said, “Futsal is in a very nascent stage in India. Premier Futsal will provide the much-needed impetus to draw some attention to the sport. We at FAI are extremely proud of our association with Premier Futsal. With the likes of Luis Figo, Virat Kohli and now AR Rahman on board, Futsal is taking big strides towards being recognized in India.”

The official anthem video will be live on the SPN Network today from 8 pm onwards. The concept and production of the anthem have been done by DDB Mudra group. Premier Futsal will kick-off July 15, 2016, and will be telecast live and exclusive on Sony SIX, SONY ESPN, and Sony AATH. Matches will also be available to live stream on Sony LIV.
