I have not been away for too long: Raghav Sachar

MUMBAI: Music composer-singer Raghav Sachar, who has composed music for films after a substantial gap, says that he was never away for a long time, and was busy with his concerts and independent music.

"Actually, I have not been away for a long time at all. My musical journey has been going on, a lot of concerts were happening, I was doing a lot of independent music like I did 'Gulabi Ankhen'. I like doing things which have some meaning, which showcases my talent, so the recreation of 'Bang Bang' had the concept of playing 10 instruments in one minute."

"In 'Ye Ladka Hai Allah' with Neeti Mohan, the concept was to make music from sounds from when we were in school, like from rubbing the blackboard with a duster or turning pages. Recently, I have shot a video, the remake of 'Mere Sapno Ki Rani', from all the sounds that you can hear on a golf course," Raghav said in an interview.

Raghav had composed music for popular directors like Rohit Shetty and Kabir Khan in their earlier films like 'Sunday' and 'Kabul Express' respectively. But post that, he composed music for very few films. 'Touch My Body' from Bipasha Basu's 'Alone' was the last song he composed.

But now, he has composed 'Rustom Vahi' in the Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Rustom' and 'Hug Me', which is picturised on Sunny Leone, in 'Beiimaan Love'. While the latter is an adaptation of his own Punjabi song composed five years ago, for the former, Akshay himself had contacted him and briefed him about the type of composition needed.

"It is a very clutter-breaking song and style of music. This was a retro song so I took up the saxophone and immediately made a catchy melody. Then it was composed and arranged around the sounds of the 1960s, and it was noted that no foreign element or modern music comes in, while also sounding very grand and energetic."

"Akshay sir liked it so much that four months before the release he performed it at the Zee awards, he again performed it on a Marathi channel, so I was told to make a Marathi version. The theme is very particular, so they have used it twice throughout the film and there are four versions in all."

'Rustom' is set to release on 12 August 2016.
