MUMBAI: United Nations, the intergovernmental organisation plans to honour legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulaxmi by issuing a stamp to mark her hundredth birth anniversary.
The UN administration will issue the stamp next week, corresponding to the 70th year of our Independence Day. India's Permanent Mission to the UN said in a press statement that the UN Postal Administration will issue the stamp to mark Subbulakshmi's birth centenary.
Versatile composer A.R Rahman, who is going to become the second Indian artiste after MS Subbulaxmi to perform at the iconic UN hall will execute a concert on the Independence Day at the headquarters of the UN in New York. He will perform in the presence of the respected UN members and other notable dignitaries.
M.S Subbulaxmi was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour. She is the first Indian musician to receive the Ramon Magsaysay award, often considered Asia's Nobel Prize.
