MUMBAI: Singer Beyonce Knowles was the big winner at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards clinching seven trophies, including the prestigious prize for Video of the Year for the song ‘Formation’.
The award show took place at the Madison Square Garden, New York on Sunday night.
Apart from the Video of the Year award, Beyonce also took home trophies in categories like Best Female Video, Breakthrough Long Form Video, Best Choreography, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Direction, reports variety.com.
Held annually, the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards reward musicians for their visual efforts.
Other big winners of the music gala included Calvin Harris, Fifth Harmony and Drake.
Late David Bowie was posthumously rewarded as the singer's album ‘Blackstar’ won the Best Art Direction accolade.
The show also featured power-packed performances by Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Britney Spears.
Rihanna, meanwhile, was honoured with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award, which recognises an artist's entire catalogue of work.
