MUMBAI: Music director duo Meet Bros stepped in for the first time at the third 5th Veda session at Whistling Woods International on 26 August 2016.
The siblings spoke about the era of Indi-Pop and Punjabi music in mainstream Indian cinema in the cultural session. Full of energy and in sync with the crowd in the auditorium, the two shared their journey, their student days to their expedition through the Bollywood music industry. The brothers also touched upon various aspects of their lives, the achievements and struggles, precious moments, breakthroughs and their motivation to divert their careers from the field of acting to music direction.
“Our journey started seven years ago, and the most difficult part was we didn’t know anything about music at that time. We were in Gwalior, managing our father’s business. We were not doing much apart from selling liquor, so we thought of launching a FM station. Some of our friends were supposed to join us in the business but they ditched us at the last moment. We took the license for a FM station in Gwalior but we had no clue how to run it. We created a new team by auditioning 200 people and prepared several programmes. On the scheduled date, our music programme started rolling sharp at 6 pm and next morning, Radio Chaska broke all the records of other radio channels in Gwalior. For the next five years, 90 per cent business in the city came to our radio station. That was the beginning of everything,” the brothers shared.
The attraction of the event included various experiences of music compositions done by the Meet Bros from 2005 till date. The brothers engaged the audiences by singing all their chartbuster compositions along with some dance moves, starting from ‘Baby Doll’, ‘Chittiyaan Kalaiyan’ and ‘Hangover’, to name a few. “'Baby Doll' was the turning point of our musical career. The whole mukhda of Baby Doll with the words and tune came out in less than seven minutes,” added Harmeet.
Whistling Woods founder and chairman Subhash Ghai moderated the show and he made sure the Meet Bros came up with some impromptu compositions as well. While talking about their secret mantras, the duo said, “The only person who can inspire you is you, yourself. The only way to grab success is inspire yourself and be happy about what you do. A successful composition is also the one, which is good to hear to the ears of the audience and not the composer; and always believe in what you strive for."
