MUMBAI: For the Global Citizen’s debut initiative in India, several noted Indian musicians would join the cause on the stage on 19 November at MMRDA ground in Mumbai. The effort, as announced earlier, would involve popular UK-based band Coldplay’s first ever performance on the Indian soil.
Among the Indian musicians to join the concert would be Oscar winner maestro AR Rahman, actor-turned-singer Farhan Akhtar, national award winner Monali Thakur, noted composer trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy and Bollywood’s hottest talent Arijit Singh.
The entire line-up of the musicians has not been officially announced yet, however, the mentioned artists in the article will share the stage on the night of 19 November along with British band Colplay and American rapper and hip-hop mogul Jay Z.
Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh would participate and/or appear on the stage for the cause from the Bollywood fraternity.
Contrary to the earlier reports by certain tabloids, most tickets to the Global Citizen event would cost absolutely nothing. Fans will have to ‘earn’ the tickets through charity work, as suggested on the Global Citizen’s Indian website – globalcitizen.in.
The event – a global phenomenon – follows the similar practice in the countries that it expanded to, and India and Canada are the latest countries to join the noble cause. In association with the Maharashtra State government, and powered by Colors, the event will be organised by Wizcraft.
CEO of Global Citizen Chris Evans told Billboard, “We will host the festival in different cities in India every year for the next fifteen years as an annual accountability moment."
Stay tuned for more updates on the event.
