MUMBAI: she's not called the nightingale of India without reason. Lata Mangeshkar who turns 87 today has made a strong statement regarding her birthday this year.
The maestro has urged her fans to celebrate her birthday in a different way.
HT Media's retro station, Radio Nasha decided to get Lata Didi's wish convey through the medium of radio to her fans.
In an exclusive interview with RJ Rohini of Radio Nasha, Lata Mangeshkar expressed her concern for 'Jawans' (army personnel) of our nation and has made a request to the listeners which is played out on the diva's birthday today on 28 September morning 9-10 a.m. on 'Jhakaas Mornings'
She wishes on-air, "Every year, on my birthday, thousands of fans send me flowers, sweets, cakes, greeting cards. This year, I humbly request you all, instead of sending me these things, that money and as much as you can give, please give it to our brave soldier brothers."
The station, known for its weekly specials went on with an extraordinary initiative 'Lata special week'.
Listening to the diva, RJ Rohini also adds, "Lata Mangeshkar is a living legend. This shall go down in history as one of my most special interviews, not just because of who she is but because she considered my show on Radio Nasha a medium to reach her audience and fans. Outside of this serious topic, I was really taken in by her wit and presence of mind. Radio is such a beautiful medium, it really brings out some beautiful aspects of an individual's personality."
