MUMBAI: Punjab isn't just the poster state for the Green Revolution. A lot of the country's music talent springs from this northern state. Now Shemaroo introduces Preet Thind to the state. The label signed the singer early this year and since, then there has been no looking back for Thind.
“We are looking at establishing Preet as a singer in Punjab. We have big plans for her,” said a Shemaroo spokesperson.
Thind has been signed by Shemaroo for five years during which she will do both music videos and on ground events.
Confirming the same, the singer said, “I am crazy about music and dance. I am extremely thankful to Shemaroo for giving me this opportunity.”
The singer has earlier been associated with the aviation and hospitality sectors, but music was always her first love. “My mother did not want me to become a singer, but I was always on stage singing. I used to participate in school and college functions.”
Thind is vocally trained in Punjabi folk music, but she is working on adding Hindustani classical to her music profile. “I am learning classical music currently.”
The Shemaroo artiste is currently trying to get a foothold in the Punjabi industry before heading to Bollywood. “I feel everything that comes from Punjab is a hit. Singers like Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, and so many others are from Punjab. So I first want to start from my roots.”
The singer’s music videos so far have been different from the usual, but she wishes to sing a romantic number."I have changed the image of the usual female Punjabi singer with my songs, but I love romantic songs. I want to sing them now."

The singer has already begun performing at live venues and she is enjoying it. “To be honest I love singing live. The feeling of being on the stage in front of a live audience gives you a different high.”
