AR Rahman and Shaad Ali team up once again after 'Saathiya'

MUMBAI: In 2002, Mani Ratnam produced a movie that collected six awards at Filmfare Awards and grossed 18 crore rupees at the Box Office for Vivek Oberoi and Rani Mukherjee starrer ‘Saathiya’. One of the major factors for the same, as the case with almost every movie he associates to, is music composer AR Rahman’s soundtrack. And the upcoming Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer romantic drama movie 'Ok Jaanu' will feature the hit Jodi of director Shaad Ali and musician AR Rahman, for the first time since the 2002 released romantic drama.

The music of ‘Saathiya’ gained critical and commercial recognition with Rahman grabbing ‘Best Music Director’ for the nine-song soundtrack. The upcoming Dharma Productions’ movie ‘Ok Jaanu’ will be another official remake of a Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Ok Kanmani’. Similar to the current scenario, Mani Ratnam’s ‘Saathiya’ was also an official remake of a Tamil film, titled ‘Alaipayuthey’, with Rahman helming the music for the original and the remake. Rahman has re-used most of the compositions from the Tamil original, however the music director has composed three originals for the Hindi remake.

Earlier this month, Radioandmusic.com reported about rapper Badshah and promising musician Tanishk Bagchi recreating the Rahman hit – Humma Humma - from 1995 released ‘Bombay’ for the movie. Read here.

Grammy and Academy award winning lyricist Gulzar has penned the lyrics and co-written the dialogues for ‘Ok Jaanu’.
