MUMBAI: Since uploading its first video content concerning ‘hip hop’ in India, 101India has become almost synonymous to the phenomenon of discovering new or unheard talents in the country. The latest video features rappers and hip hop ambassadors from the North East region of the country.
Titled ‘Hip Hop Homeland Northeast’, the second edition of the existing music property ‘Hip Hop Homeland’ is an attempt to discover, unearth and promote emerging and established hip-hop musicians from otherwise isolated regions and communities in the country.
One of the most respected rappers in the hip-hop community, Feyago takes the viewers on a journey to collaborate with other musicians. The effort falls in linear to the concept’s essence of story-telling followed by original hip hop music. It endorses the voice of the street, bringing together artists who embody the hip hop sub-culture.
A rap anthem featuring all the artistes featured in the edition was released on 101India’s YouTube channel, and the video has received impressive views and critical appreciation already. The fascinating part of Hip Hop Homeland continues to be its ability to provide one highlighting factor after another through its depiction and brilliant execution. In the latest edition, Symphonic Movement becomes Hip Hop Homeland’s newest discovery for a unique line-up involving some of the youngest rappers in the country. Crews like Khasi Bloodz, Cryptographik Street Poets and B-boy Kim, too, feature and collaborate with Feyago. The highlight of the series is the 13-year-old rapper from Symphonic Movement who is possibly the youngest artist rapping about social issues. The Northeast edition also brings an interesting union of rap and baul music composed by Feyago.
101 India brought to attention some of the hidden gems like Kashmiri rapper MC Kash, and some of the consistent faces of the genre’s community from the slums of Mumbai. With an intent to provide background stories of how each crew came together, Hip Hop Homeland Northeast would also act as a reminder that North East is more than ‘rock n roll’ or inclined to one genre of music.
