MUMBAI: Recently the media went abuzz with news of Abhishek Bachchan stepping up to play the role of Sahir Ludhianvi in his biopic. But, to introduce the man most simply used two words ‘lyricist’ and ‘poet’. There is definitely a lot more about this enigmatic personality that will be explored in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film, but before that, we at Radioandmusic.com bring you some facts about this talented man.
· Sahir Ludhianvi was born on 8 March 1921 to a Muslim family.
· He was born in Red Sandstone Haveli in Karimpura in Ludhiana in Punjab.
· Ludhianvi did his education from Khalsa High School in Ludhiana.
· He went to Satish Chander Dhawan Government College For Boys, Ludhiana to take his further education. Ludhianvi was popular for his Ghazals and poems in the entire college.
· He Fled from Lahore to Delhi because of an arrest warrant issued against him by the Government Of Pakistan for making controversial statements against them.
· Ludhianvi had a controversial love life, though he did not marry. He had affairs with Amrita Pritam (a journalist), Sudha Malhotra (singer- actress) and then with another not known women.
· He wrote some of the most memorable songs of Bollywood, Aye Meri Zohrajabein, Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon, Kabhie Kabhie, Allah Tero Naam, Ishwar Tero Naam and many more
· Sahir was a very good poet, his first poetry Talkhiyaan was published in the year 1945. After which, he went to write many such notable poems.
· Many books have been written on his life, his poetries and his work. Some of which are Gaata Jaye Banjara, The Bitter Harvest: Selections from Sahir Ludhiavni's Verse, Shadows Speak: (Parchhalyan) and many more.
· He has also received Filmfare Awards for Jo Wada Kiya for the film Taj Mahal and Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein for the movie Kabhi Kabhie.
· Sahir Ludhianvi died on 25 October 1980, after a sudden cardiac arrest, at the age of 59.
