MUMBAI: Monica Dogra's latest video Naraye Mastana is still the talk of the town and the numbers don’t lie. This booty shake track has already garnered two million views and is aiming for the stars for real!
Yes, Dogra has high expectations from the track that has been tagged the sexiest song ever, by most publications. There is no doubt about the oomph factor that the actor-singer manages to bring into the video, but the credit also goes to choreographer Zojea Ezike.
Ezike has toured with Beyonce and now you exactly know, why Naraye Mastana is steaming hot.
For the uninitiated, the track is a recreated version of legendary singer Abida Parveen’s Sufi song with the same title. The 34-year-old was given the opportunity to recreate this by Times Music. “I was given the opportunity to reimagine and I just got into the studio and let myself live with the track. I kept writing and re-writing until I had something that felt right. My producer, Abhimanyu Malhotra, was by my side as well helping me to realize the idea of creating a club tune with the lyrical themes that represent what "Naraye Mastana" means to me,” says the musician.
Finally, Dogra managed to connect with these two words, “To me, it means rebel in pursuit of the highest of highs ‘God’ or ‘realization’.”
The output did take a while though. It was a six-month-long journey for the musician. She tried bringing in the elements that she had never before explored musically. “This is the most pop direction, I have ever gone in. I am also exploring a harder spoken word rap style that fits in with the hip-hop influences I grew up to,” explains The Stage judge.
Interestingly, Dogra managed to finish the video shoot in a day. But, that’s not the only best part about this song to her. “The entire thing has been magical and difficult. Actually writing the song was a blast. The music video was also an incredible journey,” ends the pretty woman.
