Saregama India posts quarterly net profit of Rs 31.8 mn

MUMBAI: Saregama India has announced a net profit of Rs 31.80 million for the quarter ended March 2008, a drop of 26.22 per cent from the same quarter last year, when the company posted a standalone net profit of Rs 43.10 million. Net sales for the quarter climbed 37.13 per cent to Rs 392.60 million, while total income for the quarter rose 32.08 per cent to Rs 424.10 million, compared with the same period last year.

Big Music expands library, acquires new titles

MUMBAI: Having acquired the music rights of Harry Baweja's Love Story 2050 and Tanvir Ahmed's Ada, Big Music is now gearing up for its second innings this year. The music label has bagged the rights to 69 in-house (produced by Reliance Entertainment) films. This apart, they have also bagged the music rights of Vikram Bhatt's forthcoming film 1920.

Love Story 2050 partners with Big FM

MUMBAI: Big FM announces an exclusive radio partnership with Love Story 2050 on 12 June. The station would feature Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja for the first time on radio. The newcomer would be aired in Big Chai hosted by RJ Archana Jani on 16 June. The stars of the movie will be answering questions quizzed by fans across the day on air. On 24 June the station would interview music director Anu Malek, which would be followed by a series of interview till 28 June. The songs of the album would be played exclusively for seven to ten days across all Big FM stations, nationally.

BBC unlocks its music vault to EMI

MUMBAI: Music label EMI and BBC Worldwide have struck a deal to release EMI related material from the network's extensive archive of TV and radio recordings. The agreement between EMI and BBC Worldwide suggests that each party will have access to release and broadcast recordings by EMI artists from the BBC archive. Under the deal, EMI will have the opportunity to include BBC recordings from their artists as part of DVDs, CDs and digital downloads while BBC Worldwide has the opportunity to drive revenue through international radio and TV programme sales.

IPL franchises under PPL, IPRS scanner

MUMBAI: The twin licensing arms of the Indian Music Industry (IMI) - The Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS) and Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) are contemplating legal action against some of the franchises that owned teams in the just concluded DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) series, for non payment of music royalties.

Blue Frog Records unveils John McLaughlin's fusion work

MUMBAI: Blue Frog Records is set to release John McLaughlin's next album 'Floating Point'. With this album, McLaughlin brings a Western Jazz-Fusion approach, but with a band comprising mainly renowned Indian musicians. The band includes keyboardist Louiz Banks, percussionist Sivamani, and drummer Ranjit Barot, as well as French bassist Hadrien Feraud. His work is considered a major influence on composers in the fusion genre.

AOL launches redesigned online player

MUMBAI: Global web services company AOL has announced a partnership with CBS RADIO that will in turn power its new AOL Radio, a redesigned online player which includes 150 local CBS Radio stations and custom channels plus more than 200 AOL Radio channels. AOL executive vice president Kevin Conroy says, "With over 350 streams, 150 of them from CBS RADIO, AOL Radio is unmatched in breadth of streaming audio content available online."
