I don't believe in banning Pakistani artists: Kavita Seth

MUMBAI: Working with Pakistani singers is currently a big 'No' in our country given the India-Pak issues, but a few artists don’t believe in sidelining others. The Iktara singer Kavita Seth is one of them. In fact, the singer recently went on to collaborate with Pakistani poet Rehman Faris. The two together created soulful melody Yeh Jo Mujh Par Nikhar Hai.

On the subject of banning Pak artists, the singer states, “I don't believe in banning Pakistani artists. It’s not a solution to keep Indo-Pak relations healthy. Music just binds you together.  You do not know where that person belongs whether he is from India or Afghanistan, ‘art is art’.”

She further adds, “We should not create boundaries for the artists. Kissi bhi art ko kyu bandhana. Life is too short and what talent God has gifted us we should share and showcase it that as much as possible.”

“I had been to a Mushayara held in Mumbai 20 year’s back, that’s when I met Rehman Faris who read some of his beautiful poetries to me. The most common thing between us was we were followers of Rumi and we bonded over this passion for poetry. Rehman mailed some of his poetry to me which I really liked and did decide to compose a song named Ye Jo Mujh Par Nikhar Hain.”

Seth who has also composed the track says, “Rehman has written such a beautiful piece. While he is such a calm, composed and a creative person, it was a nice experience collaborating with him. I felt it was my destiny to meet Rehman Faris.”
