MUMBAI: Singer duo Meiyang Chang and Himani Kapoor are back with their second cover song, Rafta Rafta, which is the sequel to their first cover, Yeh Haseen Wadiyan. The love story of the characters continues in this song that will take you from the mountains of Uttarakhand to the dunes of Himalayas. Meiyang Chang speaks exclusively with Radioandmusic on the song that is getting a good response from fans.
“It is a good song and a sequel to our first cover, Yeh Haseen Wadiyan. We were clear of how we would go about it,” said Chang.
The singer-host also shared the story behind the series, saying, “We had thought of doing three songs depending on the response. After the first song was out, Himani had come up with #IntezaarRahega, which was also shown at the end of the first video. She had promoted the hashtag. I underestimated her idea until it became popular and fans kept on asking about our next song. Also, after the release of our second song, fans ask me about the third song. So, the joke is that we will have many videos in the series.”
Chang, who is collaborating with singer Kapoor for the second time with Rafta Rafta also spoke about his experience of working with her. He said, “Himani comes with a lot of more experiences. Besides, playback singing, she was also interning with a music producer and thus understands music composition. Our communication began years ago on Facebook. We used to share each other’s videos there.”
He added, “Initially, I was not sure but Himani and Manan helped me out. And, now, I’m in the thick of things. I have also taught them my editing skills. It was a good exchange,” concluded Meiyang.
When asked about the song close to his heart, whose cover he wants to make, the singer said, “I definitely want to do a cover of my favourite song, Aao Na from Kyu Ho Gaya Na, which in fact my fans also want me to do. I had sung this song for my Indian Idol audition. It could be one of the series.”
Meanwhile, Chang has two other songs releasing in the span of three months. While one is a Sufi song, Maula, which he has crooned for Dhrishyam-3, an independent collection of original songs, the second song is a Bengali number that he has sung for Rajat Barmecha starrer web series, Love, Lust and Confusion, which streams on Viu. The singer will also be seen doing a cameo in the series.
