I want to create my own space like Lucky Ali and Amit Trivedi: Nikita Ahuja

MUMBAI: Veere Di Wedding did not just have female actors and producers, but it also got onboard female singers like Nikita Ahuja, who is part of the quartet who sang the title track Veere. Nikita who has been popular on YouTube with over two million hits on her channel has also given playback for Marathi as well as Gujarati films

“I had a crazy fascination for music since I was a child. No matter where I went, I would always carry my guitar with me, be it travelling or anywhere else. I have been a fan of Taylor Swift and would listen to her all the time as I was growing up,” says the singer.

Nikita, who is basically from Ahmedabad, has now moved to Mumbai by the virtue of her work. She, however, recollects her days in Ahmedabad, “I have learnt basics in classical music when I was growing up and used to live in Ahmedabad. But I never took any official training in playing guitar. I was doing my career in interiors and used to sing whenever I got a chance. The response I received from Ahmedabad was very positive and they wanted to hear me more and more often. That’s how I started singing regularly.”

She progressed to YouTube sensation and eventually landed up as a playback singer for Gujarati movies. “I also did background vocals for Friendship Unlimited a Marathi movie by Mahesh Manjrekar. During the same time, I got to know about Veere Di Wedding score auditions. The producers and composers wanted fresh voices. I gave the audition and was selected among 400 voices. They liked the texture of my voice and thought it suited their requirement,” narrates Nikita.

She further adds, “I have sung for Gujarati, Marathi and now such a blockbuster, but I have never sung a solo for any movie yet and I am waiting for that.”

The singer has big plans for future, “I am working on my single which is composed by me and written by Kunal Verma. I want to do more and more independent music and create my own space like Lucky Ali and Amit Trivedi.”
