MUMBAI: The pop singer of Bollywood music industry, Daler Mehndi is truly a rock star. This was proved when the Victoria Global University, United States of America honoured the singer with a doctorate certificate at their 15^th Convocation. The singer will now be called Dr. Daler Mehndi, Doctor of Music. The event was held on 28 July at New Delhi.

On asking the Tunak Tunak singer about this the victory he first thanks Guru Nanakdev Ji and his parents for all that he has today. “Well, I take this as my pre-birthday gift. When I got to know about the award and I went to receive it on the stage, the feeling was something I cannot express. The honour I received with the award was just amazing. It is a moment of happiness to know that our work is appreciated so well,” says the singer.

He is really happy to know that his work (songs) is just not limited to the Indian audience. “My songs have been heard by people across the globe, be it Japan, Korea, Moscow, Canada. I knew that my songs are getting famous this far but the award was like a cherry on the cake. Every hour I see my songs been shared at some corner of the world on the digital media,” he adds.

On asking Daler Ji how he would like to define awards he says, “Awards are a great way of encouraging an artiste. It motives an artiste to do some more great and hard work. Hard work only needs appreciation.”
